Book Description

Publication Date: November 22, 2011

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller The Hangman’s Daughter is now available as a hardcover Collector’s edition with illustrations by Ben Gibson.
Magdalena, the clever and headstrong daughter of Bavarian hangman Jakob Kuisl, lives with her father outside the village walls and is destined to be married off to another hangman’s son—except that the town physician’s son is hopelessly in love with her. And her father’s wisdom and empathy are as unusual as his despised profession. It is 1659, the Thirty Years’ War has finally ended, and there hasn’t been a witchcraft mania in decades. But now, a drowning and gruesomely injured boy, tattooed with the mark of a witch, is pulled from a river and the villagers suspect the local midwife, Martha Stechlin.

Jakob Kuisl is charged with extracting a confession from her and torturing her until he gets one. Convinced she is innocent, he, Magdalena, and her would-be suitor to race against the clock to find the true killer. Approaching Walpurgisnacht, when witches are believed to dance in the forest and mate with the devil, another tattooed orphan is found dead and the town becomes frenzied. More than one person has spotted what looks like the devil—a man with a hand made only of bones. The hangman, his daughter, and the doctor’s son face a terrifying and very real enemy.

Taking us back in history to a place where autopsies were blasphemous, coffee was an exotic drink, dried toads were the recommended remedy for the plague, and the devil was as real as anything, The Hangman’s Daughter brings to cinematic life the sights, sounds, and smells of seventeenth-century Bavaria, telling the engrossing story of a compassionate hangman who will live on in readers’ imaginations long after they’ve put down the novel.

Wait for 3 Knocks.

Jason and Alesha were driving from their home in NJ to visit his parents in South Carolina. It was a long trip, but one they had taken many times before, so they were familiar with the route from start to finish. They had to wait to start driving until after work that evening and were scheduled to arrive at Mom and Dad’s the next day.

That night, construction and roadwork forced them to take a detour which led them down a highway they had never taken before. While they were driving, their car broke down. Jason noticed they hadn’t passed any gas stations or even a traffic light for quite a few miles and just discovered he didn’t have a single bar of a cell phone signal in this spot. He suggested that Alesha wait in the car while he took a walk to get some help, or at least find a signal so he could make a phone call. He told her to lock the doors and hide under a blanket and not to come out until she heard three knocks on the roof. She sat there for what seemed like hours, waiting for Jason to come back and for the safety of those three knocks.

Alesha grew anxious and concerned. “What could be taking him so long?”, she thought to herself. “Maybe he needs my help.” She pulled off the blanket and saw a strange man grinning at her with wild eyes and his face pressed up against the window. When he caught her eye, his smile widened as he held up the keys to the car.

The Midnight Man.

This game was used as a ritual to summon The Midnight Man to punish rule breakers in Pagan religions long ago. WARNING!: Play this game at your own risk of torture and death. 1.You’ll need the following supplies to play: paper, pencil, needle, candle, a box of matches, a door and salt. 2.Turn off all the lights. 3.Light a candle. 4.Write your name on the paper, first, middle, and last. 5.Prick your finger with the needle and add a drop of blood on the paper, allow it to soak in. 6.Place the paper with your name on the floor in front of the door. 7.Knock on the door 22 times with the ticking of the clock, the 22nd knock MUST occur at 12am. 8.Open your door, blow out the candle, and close it. You have now summoned the «Midnight Man». 9.Immediately relight your candle.

This is when the game begins. Your goal is to avoid the midnight man at all costs. You may move through the house to avoid him. You can tell if he is near; your candle will go out, it will get chilly, you’ll hear a low whisper, and he will appear in front of you. You must relight the candle within 10 seconds. If not, throw down a circle of salt around yourself and stay inside the circle from 12:01am to 3:33am.

If you are still alive at 3:33am, you’ve won. If not, you’ll be tortured, sometimes to death, until 3:33am. Come back and let us know if you’ve won the game.

Japanese Girl’s Suicide Drawing.

21 de septiembre de 2012 - Leave a Response

The story is this, in Japan shortly before a teenage girl committed suicide, she drew this picture, scanned it and posted it online. In Korea this story broke out and it spread like wildfire. There are various posts around in Korean forums that say that the viewer gets drawn to the girls blue eyes, they say they can detect a hint of wraith and sadness within the eyes. Maybe the girl had died with so much sadness and anger that her spirit haunts the image, or maybe the image provoke sadness, similar to the song ‘Gloomy Sunday’.

The freaky bit is this, they say it is hard for a person to stare into the girls eyes for longer than 5 minutes, there are reports that some people have taken their own lives after doing so. People say the picture changes,as you view it there is a hint of a growing taunting smirk appearing on the girls lips or a dark ring grows around the girl or her eyes.

The Smith Sisters: Murdered Anonymously.

21 de septiembre de 2012 - Leave a Response

This is a story about the Smith sisters who were murdered anonymously while they slept in their bedroom.
Its an urban legend about a boy named John Smith who was very fond of scary emails and pop-ups.
Every day, he would find new ones and post them to everyone he knew. He even started making some himself and sending them to strangers. He loved to scare people on the Net. John lived in Plainfield, Wisconsin. One day in November 2007, he opened up his Inbox and found a message that appeared to be from two young girls. They called themselves the Smith Sisters and told him they were his older sisters, which confused him because he was an only child. They said years ago, they had lived in his house.

He replied, saying he didnt have any sisters and told them to get lost and leave him alone. The next day, he received a chilling message with some photo attachments. The first photo was of two young girls.
The caption on it said “Smith Sisters murdered anonymously“.

The girls said in the email that they were indeed his older sisters. They told him that in 1993 they had lived in his house. His bedroom had once been their bedroom. They told him all about growing up and about their lives and how happy they had been until one horrible night.

He opened up the other attachment. It was a scan of an old newspaper article.

In 1993, two sisters were brutally murdered in the small-town community of Plainfield, Wisconsin. Lisa Smith, 19 and her sister, Sarah Smith, 15 were attacked in their parents home on the night of November 17th, around 1:30AM. The Smith Sisters were lying in bed when a crazed killer broke into the house. No-one heard them scream. In the morning, their parents found the dead bodies of the Smith Sisters hidden in the bedroom closet. They had been skinned alive. The killer was long gone and no trace of him could be found. They had been murdered anonymously. Police conducted an extensive investigation, but to no avail. The motives for the attack were never discovered. Nor was the attacker ever found. The only lead authorities had was a series of strange emails found in Lisas computer. The case was closed in October of 2000.
In the rest of the email, the sisters said that they were angry that the case was closed and people forgot about them.

They were angry that their parents wanted to forget about them too.

They were angry that their parents decided to start over and had a new baby. A little boy named John.

They were angry that their parents had never mentioned their daughters or their tragic murder to their new son John.

John Smith, sent an angry reply saying he didnt believe what they were saying. He didnt believe the Smith Sisters were really related to him and he didnt believe the newspaper article was real. He told them to go to hell.

Five minutes later, he got another email from them. It said If you dont believe us, look in the bedroom closet.

That was the last email that was found on Johns computer. Police were unable to trace who had sent the messages to him.

On the floor of the closet, the police found a faint message, carved in the wood. It simply read Lisa and Sarah – 1993″. Underneath that, was another carving that read John 2007.

No-one knows what John did next, but in the morning, Johns parents woke up to find their son missing. Then they checked his bedroom closet and got the shock of their lives. There they found the dead body of their son. He had been skinned alive.

No-one knows what really happened that night. Police were only able to piece together parts of the story based on what they found on Johns computer.

The parents were devastated. How could this happen to a family. First their daughters were murdered. And now years later their son is murdered.

It seemed too weird to be just a coincidence. Two sisters are murdered and then years later, their brother is murdered in exactly the same way, in exactly the same place. And the only evidence left behind is a few scary emails Makes you wonder.

Praying Mantis: The Thousand Dollar Bug.

21 de septiembre de 2012 - Leave a Response

Tonight we found this praying mantis stuck between the storm windows of my son’s room. He’s still in there, trying to get out, but we aren’t sure the best way to free him. My 7 year old boy was very upset. Not because he was practically bunking down with a praying mantis for the night, but because he wanted to make sure he didn’t die. He knows they are especially good bugs, that they will be good for Mommy’s garden and that it’s illegal to kill them. He told us that if we kill it that we will get a big fine. I was surprised to hear him say that because my husband and I never told him this, but I knew I had heard it before. When I posted the picture on facebook tonight, a friend who also lives in NJ called it the “Thousand Dollar Bug”. He said that when he was a kid, it was illegal to kill a praying mantis and the fine for such a crime was $1,000. Actually, it turns out that this is not true and is an urban legend that has been passed around since the 1950s. It’s never been illegal to kill a praying mantis in the US.
